Leg 10

Date: June 24 - 25, 2005

Course: Victoria to Nanaimo

Distance: 60.40 nautical miles

Start: 1500 hrs. The race committee will be on station on the Ogden Point Breakwater and the start will be between the Ogden Point Breakwater and Brotchie Ledge. Refer to the links above for information. This leg starts in the afternoon, to take advantage of the tide and to give boats the best opportunity of finishing in daylight hours on Saturday in Nanaimo.

With so many routes through the Gulf Islands to Nanaimo this night sailed leg will no doubt have most navigators pulling their hair out. Significant differences in the length of the various routes and tides through the many passes will prove challenging.

Finish: The finish will be off the Visiting Vessels Pier in Nanaimo Harbour. Excellent Spectator view from the Pier. Refer to the Nanaimo legs above for information.

Finish Time: Boats have until 0800 on June 26 to finish this leg.

Moorage: Moorage will again be “hosted” by the Nanaimo Port Authority. Please contact the Harbour Master upon your arrival.

Awards Party: Sunday June 26, 1130 hrs. A “Gala Awards Party” has been organized with assistance from the City of Nanaimo, the Nanaimo Port Authority, the Coast Bastion Inn and other community groups and event sponsors. The grand event will take place on the Pioneer Waterfront Plaza overlooking the marina. Pioneer Plaza is located next to the historic Bastion Fort downtown. This is a tented, outdoor event. Tickets can be purchased at the Coast Bastion Inn. Further details TBA.
